About Dr Peter Miller BEd (Hons), MEd, EdD
Dr Peter Miller will join Sydney Church of England Grammar School (Â鶹ֱ²¥) as its next Headmaster, bringing extensive leadership experience from his current role as Principal of Geelong College, a prestigious co-educational school in Geelong, Victoria.
An accomplished educational leader with over three decades of experience in renowned schools across Australia and the United Kingdom, Dr Miller has a distinguished track record of fostering academic excellence, Pastoral Care, and leadership development. His educational philosophy centres on cultivating a deep sense of belonging, connection to community, and commitment to place, alongside excellence in academics and co-curricular pursuits.
Since joining Geelong College in 2016, Dr Miller has driven initiatives that strengthen the School’s academic programs, enhance student wellbeing, and deliver on a large master planning project. Prior to this, he served as Head of College (Headmaster) at All Saints’ College in Bathurst (2008–2015) and Head of Middle School at Barker College (2000–2008).
Dr Miller’s relationship with Â鶹ֱ²¥ began in 1989 when he taught at the School and became the founding Housemaster of Burns House. During his tenure, he was deeply involved in co-curricular activities, serving in Â鶹ֱ²¥’s Cadet Unit and coaching rowing, rugby, and athletics, the latter at GPS level. His expertise in Senior School Boarding includes roles as Assistant Housemaster at Â鶹ֱ²¥ and other leading schools in Australia and the UK, equipping him with a rich understanding of the unique needs of Boarding students.
Dr Miller’s academic qualifications reflect his lifelong dedication to education. He holds a Doctor of Education from the University of New England, where his research focused on peer relations and masculinities in boys' middle schools. He also earned a Master of Education from the University of Nottingham, specialising in subject selection in secondary schools, and a Bachelor of Education (Hons.) from the University of Sydney. To further hone his leadership skills, Dr Miller has undertaken professional development programs at Harvard Business School, Cambridge University, and the Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership.
Beyond the classroom, Dr Miller is an avid rower who has represented Australia internationally and contributed to the sport as a coach and administrator. His passion for holistic education is evident in his commitment to balancing character development with academic and co-curricular excellence.
A committed Anglican, Dr Miller is supported by his wife, Naomi, and is a proud father to Alexander, Phoebe, and Hugh. Recently, he celebrated becoming a grandfather to baby Oliver. In every aspect of his life, Dr Miller exemplifies the values of integrity, service, and community that align with Â鶹ֱ²¥’s mission and traditions.
