On Monday 24 March, 29 Year 10 students travelled to Sydney Olympic Park to represent Â鶹ֱ²¥ at the 2025 Science and Engineering Challenge — a prestigious inter-school competition designed to inspire students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The day was filled with hands-on activities including bridge building, glider flying, and complex problem-solving tasks.
Competing against several leading schools, including James Ruse Agricultural High School and Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College, the Â鶹ֱ²¥ team demonstrated exceptional teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking. For the first time since 2018, Â鶹ֱ²¥ was crowned overall winner of the event, a remarkable achievement considering the high calibre of competition.
In the morning session, students designed and launched balsa wood gliders capable of flying over 15 metres, constructed working electricity grids for model cities, and engineered wind turbines that recorded the fastest speeds of the day. The afternoon’s challenges tested lateral thinking with eco-house construction and water tank design, culminating in the testing of the bridges built throughout the day. Â鶹ֱ²¥’s outstanding performance across all activities secured a well-deserved win over the reigning champions, James Ruse Agricultural High School.
The team now looks ahead to the Super Challenge in Newcastle later in the year, where the highest-performing schools from across New South Wales will compete. We wish our students every success and look forward to seeing how they fare on the next stage of this exciting journey in STEM.
